Photographs So Well

Farmington sits in a pocket of Connecticut that still moves slowly. River valley on one side, three centuries of white colonial architecture on the other. For senior portraits, that mix is hard to beat.

The Farmington River runs right through it, with open water, long tree lines, and trail sections that go gold in October. A few minutes away, Main Street gives you the elm shade and clean white clapboard that has been photographing well for a hundred years. Editorial one minute, soft and natural the next.

That range is what makes a Farmington session work. No studio backdrop, no forced poses. Just you, somewhere that already looks like New England at its best, doing very little and looking entirely like yourself.

Welcome! I've spent ten years photographing Connecticut families, and somewhere in there senior sessions became my favorite thing to shoot. You're old enough to have real opinions about how you want to look, and that makes the whole day better.

The awards are nice, but what I actually care about is that you leave feeling like yourself. No stiff posing. No fake laughing at nothing. No standing with your hand on a tree.

Love In Farmington

  • Farmington River Trail: Built on an old railroad bed, so it curves and opens up in a way that gives your photos movement. Water on one side, tree line on the other. In October, it is the best light in town.
  • Historic Main Street: White clapboard, black shutters, stone walls, and old elms. If you want the classic, editorial New England look that never dates, this is it. Best in late afternoon when the light comes in sideways.
  • Unionville: Farmington's old mill village, and the most underrated spot on this list. Brick, texture, and a little grit. Perfect if you want something moodier than a field.
  • Tunxis Mead Park: Open fields, the riverfront boathouse, and a skate park all in one place. Great when you want two completely different looks without getting back in the car.
  • Farmington Canal Heritage Trail: Long, straight, and tree-lined, which gives you that symmetrical tunnel of green in summer and full gold in fall. Simple and clean.

Where are the best places for senior photos in Farmington?
Farmington gives you a lot of range for a town its size. The Farmington River Trail is my pick for anything natural, especially in October when the whole thing goes gold. Historic Main Street is where you go for classic New England, white clapboard and old elms. If you want something moodier, Unionville has brick and texture left over from its mill days. Tunxis Mead Park is the versatile one, with open fields, the riverfront, and a skate park all within a short walk.
Do you photograph seniors from Farmington High School?
Yes, absolutely. Whether you are a Farmington High River Hawk or finishing up at Miss Porter's, I would love to shoot your session. If you are at Miss Porter's and your family is traveling in for it, tell me your window and I will build the session around it. I photograph seniors from across the Farmington Valley, so joint sessions with friends from other districts are easy to arrange too.
When should Farmington seniors book their session?
Most Connecticut seniors shoot the summer before senior year or in early fall, which lines up with when yearbook portraits are usually due. I would reach out three to four months ahead if you want a specific date, because sunset slots in September and October go first. If you are hoping for peak fall color along the Farmington River, mid October is the window, and those dates book earliest of all.
Do you travel to Farmington for senior sessions?
Yes. My studio is in North Haven, about 50 minutes from Farmington, and I travel throughout Connecticut including the Farmington Valley. A travel fee applies for locations this far from the studio, and I will include it clearly in your quote so there are no surprises later. If you would rather do part of your session indoors, the studio at 100 Broadway in North Haven is always an option.
Can we shoot on the Farmington High or Miss Porter's campus?
Sometimes, but it depends on the school. Both campuses are private property, so we would need permission first, and those policies change from year to year. If campus photos matter to you, ask your school and I will work with whatever they say. Honestly though, most of my favorite senior images happen off campus, where you are not surrounded by people you know.
How long is a session and when do I get my photos?
Sessions run about 60 to 90 minutes, which is enough time for two or three outfits and usually two nearby locations. Your gallery arrives within two to three weeks as a private online gallery with high resolution downloads and full print rights, so you can order prints wherever you like. If you need one image quickly for a yearbook deadline, just tell me and I will pull it early.
What happens if it rains?
We reschedule, no charge. Fall weather in the Farmington Valley can turn quickly, so I watch the forecast a few days out and reach out if it looks rough. Overcast is actually great for portraits, soft light and no squinting, so I will only move the date for real rain. If we are tight against a deadline, we can shift indoors to the North Haven studio instead.
