The best time to begin planning senior portraits is when your senior has a general idea of the season and style they want.
For families hoping for a fall outdoor session, beginning the conversation during junior year provides the best chance of finding a date that works. Shoreline sessions, studio portraits, and spring sessions each follow a different rhythm, but planning several months ahead is always helpful.
There is no single booking date that works for every family. School schedules, sports, work, college visits, weather, location access, and preferred lighting all affect the decision.
Late summer and fall are popular for senior portraits in Connecticut. Warm light, comfortable evenings, fields, and seasonal texture create beautiful outdoor options.
Because after school and weekend availability is limited, families interested in this season should begin planning early. Keep sports, rehearsals, college visits, and school events in mind when reviewing dates.
Spring offers fresh greenery, gardens, softer temperatures, and a lighter seasonal feeling. It can be a good option for seniors who prefer spring colors or were unable to schedule during fall.
Rain is more common, so some flexibility with timing is helpful.
Summer works especially well for shoreline sessions and locations with open space. Evening light can be beautiful, but sunset occurs later, which may mean a later session start.
Morning sessions are also worth considering because they can offer cooler temperatures, softer light, and fewer people.
The Studio at 100 provides a polished indoor option during colder months or unpredictable weather. Studio portraits are not simply a backup. They create a clean, editorial look that can be planned intentionally in any season.
Many families ask for golden hour because of its warm evening light. Those times are popular and can be difficult to replace when weather requires a change.
Morning sessions can be equally beautiful. They often provide soft, clean light, cooler temperatures, and quieter locations.
Nicole recommends the time of day based on the chosen location, season, comfort, and desired style. The goal is not to force every session into the same evening window.

Booking early gives your family time to:
The planning does not need to be complicated. A little lead time simply allows each choice to feel thoughtful.
If rain, strong wind, or other conditions may affect the session, Nicole will discuss the best option with you.
Sometimes changing the time of day allows the session to stay on the original date. In other cases, moving to The Studio at 100 may create the right look. When rescheduling is necessary, Nicole will work with you to identify the earliest available date that still supports the experience and final photographs.
The first step is completing the senior photography inquiry form. Nicole will respond with the current Senior Experience Guide, availability, and the information needed to choose the right session.
You do not need to have the location, outfits, or complete vision decided before reaching out. Those choices are part of the planning process.

Begin during junior year when possible. Fall evenings and weekends are limited, so earlier planning provides more flexibility.
